Labor Education Program files, 1948-1973.

The collection consists of records of the Labor Education Program of the SRC from 1948-1973. The records document the administration of Emory F. Via and include correspondence, reports, memoranda, and printed material. Among the subjects covered in the files are activities of the AFL-CIO, of specific unions, and of non-AFL-CIO unions; labor legislation including workmen's and unemployment compensation; the planning, execution, and evaluation of labor schools, institutes, and workshops; and investigations, usually in conjunction with government and other private agencies, of discrimination in the employment of African Americans and migrant labor.
